Solo Spotlights is a special collaboration between Bachanalia (Nina Beilina, Music Director / Founder), Robert Sherman, host and narrator, the noted composer and pianist Jakov Jakoulov, and the devoted musicians of Bachanalia. Solo Spotlights explores "the language of orchestration" – orchestration not just as collaboration between musicians, but as elaboration of the growing possibilities and complexities of musical ideation, both in and over time. Beginning with perhaps the most famous work for solo cello, Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1, the evening evolves through several pieces featuring different solo and duet instrumentation, and the world premieres of unique new orchestrations or Schubert’s Winterreise and David Amram’s Theme and Variatons on Red River Valley. The evening concludes by bringing all the players together in a performance of the joyful and ever-popular Tango Ballet by the modern master, Astor Piazzola.
